Originally from Chicago, I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the Memphis College of Art in Memphis, TN. I have been fortunate to turn my lifelong love of art into a career, first as a medical illustrator for St. Jude Children’s Hospital and studio assistant to former Memphis artist Alonzo Davis, then as a graphic and web designer for several local organizations including the Brooks Museum of Art and currently as a web designer with Signet, Inc.
While maintaining a career as a graphic and web designer, I have tried to keep my hands in the fine art world, continuing to draw and exhibit whenever possible. I first fell in love with figure drawing after taking my first life drawing class at MCA, Initially, I worked solely in pencil/graphite but along the way I have explored adding watercolor and collage to my drawings.
Much of my work today mixes different textures with paper, drawing and painting. Some pieces include words from whatever story, poem or quote that is going through my head at the time.
With my work I’m not trying to change the world or make a statement, I just want to touch people, make them feel something to identify and connect with.
I once read a quote by Dutch artist Roderique Arisiaman – “If you like what you see, it’s good. If you feel what you see, it’s awesome”. My feelings exactly.
